REVIEW: Your Highness

Your Highness is the brainchild of Danny McBride and his longtime collaborator Ben Best (Eastbound & Down). The story focuses on the lazy/spoiled brother of a hero prince who is forced on a quest to save his brother's bride-to-be from a evil rapist warlock. It's directed by Pineapple Express helmer David Gordon Green.

While the film is childish at times it's just as silly as the films that inspired it. I caught references that included Krull, Conan, Red Sonja, Dragonslayer, Clash of The Titans, Willow, Labyrinth, Army of Darkness, Ladyhawke, Jabberwocky, Holy Grail, Erik The Viking and even Ghostbusters. It delivered on the promise of a raunchy comedy as there were more rape and dick jokes than in most mainstream R-rated comedies. An excellent experiment to expand the comedy genre I believe Your Highness' charm comes from knowing it's a ridiculous film and not taking itself too seriously. Unlike a majority of genre based comedies this one seems to have a lot of time put into production design as the special effects didn't seem to fit it's $50 million dollar budget. Don't expect much in the acting department but if your interested in a solid fun R-rated fantasy comedy this is your best bet. I'm planning on getting this when it comes out on DVD/Bluray if you can find a theater still playing this do yourself a favor and check it out.
