NEWS/RUMORS (Feb 2nd)

Oiliva Wilde (Tron Legacy, House) has joined Daniel Craig in Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens. Wilde will play gun-slinging redhead Ella the female lead of the movie.

It looks like me might be getting an early look at Chris Hemsworth (Red Dawn, Star Trek) as Thor in Iron Man 2. There seems to be reliable information that Thor will appear in the Iron Man sequel. While it's unknown in what capacity it will work into the film. My assumption is that it would be a teaser similar to what we saw with Nick Fury after the credits in the first film. There seems to be rumors that we could see the plot for Captain America or the reason he's resurrected shown in Iron Man 2 as well.

I wasn't surprised when Sgt. Rock's setting was being changed from WWII to the future. First we've seen some similar stories with Inglourious Basterds and the upcoming Captain America. So the WWII setting could be too familiar for the character to be successful. Another reason is that 2009 was the year of science fiction with Avatar ($2 billion), Star Trek ($385 million) and District 9 ($204 million). Turning Sgt. Rock into one of the first new era comic book films set in the future makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if it has an off-world setting being influenced by Halo, Mass Effect and Gears of War. The L.A. Times was able to get producer Joel Silver to give an update on the project. Again it was confirmed that director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) was involved with the film.

"It's a little bit in the future," Silver said of the setting. "As a war movie, it's not going to be 'where it's been,' it's going to be 'where it's going.' We didn't want to do Iraq, we didn't want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war. It's pretty strong. Chad St. John wrote the script and we've got Francis Lawrence involved in developing it with us. It's not a 'go' movie yet but I'm feeling good about it."

MarketSaw is saying that Avatar 2 will be full out war they consider the first film only a battle.

French SFX house BUF will be doing the special effects on Thor according to Variety. They've previously worked on such films as Avatar, The Dark Knight, Speed Racer, Batman Begins, Fight Club, Splice, The Prestige, The Cell, The City of Lost Children, Matrix Reloaded-Revolutions, Panic Room, Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire, Revolver, Alexander, Silent Hill, Solomon Kane and Asterix At The Olympic Games.
