UPDATE: Cowboys & Aliens (June 24th 2011)

Dreamworks and Disney are planning an apdation of the wild genre mixture comic. The comic mixes the wild west with an alien invasion story. An extraterrestrial species lands in Arizona in the mid-1800s. The aliens plan to quash the Wild West and enslave humanity, but the cowboys and native Apache have other plans. This isn't the first western themed comic book to hit the screen. This summer we'll see DC Comics' Jonah Hex shooting up badies as well. I'm glad to see western genre getting some new energy pumped into it.

Director Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2) will direct the film with a script written by Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The writing pair have an impressive record writing scripts for hits such as Star Trek, Transformers, Mission Impossible 3 and The Island.

Robert Downey Jr. is set to star in the film. Downey is starting become a very viable action star. He's already releasing Iron Man 2 and Sherlock Holmes in the next couple of months. Along with signing up for Avengers, Sherlock Holmes 2 and Iron Man 3.

Casting Thought

I could see Bryce Dallas Howard cast as Verity.
