Ghostbusters 3 (2011-2012)

It's unknown who'll end up directing since Ivan Reitman has bowed out of the running. A few options include Harold Ramis (Year One), Judd Apatow (Funny People) and Ivan's son Jason Reitman (Juno). Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writing duo are best known for The Office are developing a script. The pair recently worked with Ramis on Year One.

The third installment sounds very similar to the concept from Extreme Ghostbusters. Having the original busters act as teachers instructing a new group of characters. I think it's a great move considering we could see future installments beyond this film. Also most of the actors are getting on in years and wouldn't be able to do stunts. Dan Akroyd claims that the new Ghostbusters team will be around five members.

Original cast members Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver are officially returning. It's unknown at this point if Rick Moranis and Annie Potts will return. Potts is more likely, since she reprized her role for the game.

Casting Rumors

Alyssa Milano (Pathology) did voice acting as Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn on the upcoming video game. Dan Akroyd has recently mentioned both Milano and Eliza Dushku (True Lies) as possible additions to the cast. Seth Rogen (Funny People) was rumored but he quickly dismissed his involvement with the project.

Casting Thoughts

Jack Black (Tropic Thunder)

Kristen Wiig (Adventureland)

Anna Faris (Observe & Report)
